David Hankinson was the plate umpire and Eric was the field umpire. They have umpired games for me before and I am extremely pleased with their overall demeanor and accessibility to me as a coach if I have questions. They kept the game going smoothly and were very good at explaining any questions from either coach.

Eric was the home plate umpire but I did not catch the field umpires name. I was quite pleased with the handling of our game. Both umpires made efforts to "teach" rules without causing an unfair advantage. I find that very helpful as I believe the Pony level is still about learning and becoming more knowledgable players. I hope to see these two during the regular season at the D1 level.

The umpire at this game was not number 1. I did not get the number for the umpire but his name is Matt Terrell. Mr. Terrell showed a lack of professionalism in the middle of the 3rd inning when he addressed the parents of the home team with a 3 up, 3 down gesture. I found his gesture and subsequent chuckle to be disrespectful.

During this game the following situation developed. With one out and a runner on first, the pitcher struck out the batter but the catcher dropped the third strike. As the ball rolled to the backstop the runner on first advanced to second. The umpire called the batter out and sent the runner back to first. I called time and asked the umpire why the runner had to return to first base. He stated that with less than two outs the runner is not allowed to advance. I would like clarification on this as I believe that runners on base during a dropped third strike can advance at their own risk. Thanks, Jim Robbins, coach, Capital 13. robbinsjd@comcast.net

I was just observing this game tonight- my child doesn't play on either team. The umpire missed a call that really is unexcuseable. Ball bounced in front of batter and struck the batter in the leg- batter attempted to avoid the ball. Umpire called it a ball and clearly said it was not a hit by pitch becasue the ball hit the dirt first. We need to teach our kids the correct rules of the game. Even after I brought it to the umpries attention- he still insisted the batter was not awarded first base because the ball hit the dirt first. Umpire also allowed players to wear necklaces even after brought to his attention- he said as long as it stays in the uniform it was OK. I don't see that in the rulebook. Also- one player was pitching with sunglasses on the visor of his hat. Again, brought it to the umpire's attention. He said he would ask the pitcher to remove them if a player or coach complained. Overall- needs improvement. Couldn't see the umpire's number- he was wearing a jacket.

Umpire had a chip on his shoulder or something. Made a really weak call about an inside pitch hitting the jersey of a batter ducking to get out of the way. While if this really happened, it would be a correct call, but the ball was no where near the kid or his jersey. It surprised everyone, including the supposed hit batter. We felt like this was a gotcha call from the umpire for complaining about his lack of knowledge of the rules in an earlier report using the umpire evaluation form. Umpire also again demonstrated a lack of knowledge of the rules and an inability to react to a situation on the field. On a 3-2 play to home, a player from the offense that had already scored, doubled back to pick up a bat and ran across the front of the plate in the field of play and was struck by the thrown ball from 1st to home before the catcher could make a play. The runner coming home from third crossed the plate at about the same time as the other player interfered with the throw to home. The umpire stood there dumbfounded and did nothing. The run was allowed.

This was my first game with Matt as a plate umpire. He did an excellent job. He kept the game moving, was pleasant with the boys, and had an overall great attitude. Richard was our field umpire. I don't know his umpire #. He was also excellent. His calls were decisive and I felt he put himself in proper positions to make calls.

I have had Deondre many times in the past. This is the first time this year. He was our plate umpire. Quentin was our field umpire. Both umpires were fine. It frustrates me when Deondre hesitates with his strike zone calls but he is consistent for both teams. I was glad to hear him more vocal. Last year he was very hard to hear with his calls. Quentin was decisive with his calls. I disagreed with a couple (not to the point of arguing) but will give him credit for being decisive.

I felt #86 handled himself well tonight. We had a situation where a player #3 Jack from Timberline 10 lost his cool and threw a ball at the dug out of Oly 16. This was a very dangerous act because he threw the ball at full volocity and just missed the on deck hitter by inches. Now we are not just talking unsportsmanlike we are talking assault. The umpire handled the situation very well, I was actually impressed on how professional he remained through out the situation. The player not only flipped him off, and used other bad, very bad language. The mother was using the same language. Good Job 86 you earned your money tonight. Thank you.

#1- A runner at first off the bag on a pick off must be tagged out. He ruled our runner out. After I told my runner to go back to the base I approached and asked why he was out. I was told my runner did not get back to first in time. I asked, " Was it a force out? Yes was the answer.I reminded him that a tag must be applied and he looked straight at me and said no. I asked why every major league first baseman makes a sweep tag then if its a force. He said " I never said it was a force, he was tagged out." I immediately told him that he just finished telling me his call was a force out. I pressed the fact that he just switched his answer and he immediately said "go away or your your tossed." Fine. #2 His strike zone was horrible. No worse than that. Consistent for both teams I will give him that. #3 I knew this kid just came off a the other field after some stuff I have no clue about other than another Cap coach I know was fuming. #3 If the kid would have not spent every second talking to his girlfriend between innings maybe I could give him the benefit of the doubt. However he clearly is not up to snuff to ump if he cant separate

I also happened to overhear him tell his girlfriend and friend after him game on Steven #2, before our game started, that just because he was 17 he wasnt going to let anyone push him around. #6 I approached after the game and asked again if after having time to think about his call at first being a force or not. He reiterated he never said it was a force. He made a bad call, lied about to my face, threatened to toss me and chatted up his girlfriend every second he could. He needs a serious dose of professionalism added to his skill set. Leave the girl at home, focus on the game. The kids deserve better.

He is decisive on his calls and consistent with his strike zone. I have had him also as a field umpire. I know when I see him before a game I will be getting a quality umpire.

#1 I figured since I already indicated this umpires strike zone was horrible from my last game, that perhaps he might fine tune it a bit. NOPE ! His strike zone is horrible. Some one please have a discussion about the strike zone with him. #2 I planned to protest the game due to an umpire that lacked the ability to call a good game. I decided against embarrasing myself and to give him the benefit of the doubt. I never complained about a thing tonight, and he didnt let me down, he called a lousy game for both sides. #3 I was embarrassed to take an out call we got an out a first when he blew a call there when the runner was there by a full step. #4- I know we all gotta start somewhere but if this guy cant fine tune things we may as well do without an umpire. He is taking the game away from the kids. Many of the strike calls are just not even close. #5- #2 This is test to see if the more you complain about an umpire the more you see him.

Sorry, I did not get a # for this ump ! consistent&realistic strike zone that represented what I think it should be for a 10yr old. Hand signals clear and obvious, and vocal enough on the field calls. Overall he performed well. Maybe he could be a bit louder on the strike calls, but they were audible.

I can't read the name of the umpire, however it is about general umpiring that concerns me. Lack of knowledge by the umps cost us a win in one game for not understanding that a foul tip caught by the catcher IS a live ball. That ball thrown into left field on a steel in which we scored two runs but had to go back to the base . Those runs never scored after the incorrect call and the game ended in a tie. Tonight our pitcher throws a pitch and the batter swings at the ball. During the swing the ball also hits the batter (agreed to by the ump that he swung at the pitch). The ump awards the kid first base as a HBP. I asked him to please look it up in the rule book but he said he didn't have it with him. That kid later scored in a close game against the first place team. This is our fourth game this year where the umps are playing a big part in the outcome. Not from judgement calls but in rule interpretations. It is getting frustrating. Doug Tallman 360-789-8680

The umpires name is Bill Mills (I think, however it is hard to read). Without a doubt the best umpire we have experienced in South Sound Baseball. The strike zone remained consistant throughout the game. He had two or three very close calls and was always right on top of the play in perfect position to make the call. By the way two of the three calls went against our team. What impressed me the most was that his knowledge of the rules and feel for the game allowed the kids (and coaches) on both teams to relax and play at a high level because we all had confidence in him and his calls. Several parents commented on his work after the game and asked if we could always have him for an ump. Bill would be a great ump for any young kids working their way up in umpiring to watch or for them to work with. A great game last night and a great experience for all of us. Bill is an ace. He said his name was Cameron. We had a couple strange plays and he really handled them great - I was very impressed. My number 1 comment -- his strike zone was PERFECTLY CONSISTENT the entire game. What was a ball in inning 1 was still a ball during the last at bat. His consistency played a major role in the 7 run COME BACK victory because our hitters were not guessing at what he was calling. For that, I applaud his efforts bigtime.

There was ZERO consistency in the calling of balls and strikes. The umpire would call a ball hitting the dirt outside the plate a strike and then call one dead in the strike zone a ball. I know there is some wiggle room with these young players, but when the ball hits back side of the plate it can't be a strike. Of the past 3 seasons of games I have atended this was the worst behind the plate calling I have seen. These teams were fairly evenly matched and the only real difference was the calling of strikes and balls. The umpires really seemed as if he was bored with having to call this game. The previous 3 games this season the umpires were engaged in the game and working to teach the players the rules as well as officiating.

The field ump on this game made at the minimum 3 bad calls at fisrt base. This was noticeable both from the grandstand and those of us sitting at the first base side. Three specific calls the first baseman was on the bag and and at least three that I personally saw he called the runner safe even though they were clearly out. Clearly showed favoritism towards the team that eventually won. Spectators in the stands noticed more then three that were completely prejudiced. Extremely disappointing as this is tournament play and gives the appearence of prejudice towards one team.
